A moment of contemplation before I undertake this rite of passage.

Ok, thanks.

Six random things about me:

1. My high school football team lost 48 games in a row. The Capitol Hill Redskins of Oklahoma City did not win a football game from 1968 to 1972. 1972 was my junior year and I was there for the win that broke the string. 6-0 in a driving rain that turned the field into a quagmire by the middle of the first quarter. The mud was ankle deep on the sideline by the end of the first half. I suited out but did not play. I suited out but did not play the next week and we won again.

2. My dad worked for the U.S. Post Office for over twenty five years. My oldest son, who shares the same name as my dad, now works for the U.S. Post Office.

3. When I was 11 years old my right hand, covered with a very cheap sock puppet, appeared on the local OKC TV station as the side-kick puppet with local legend Ho-Ho the clown. I was guest puppet for one show.

4. I have attended classes at 6 different universities: The University of Oklahoma, Harding University, Oklahoma Christian University, Harding Graduate School of Religion (Memphis), Abilene Christian University and Wichita State University. I finished a BA in Religious Education from OC and, 28 years later, finished a BA in Communication from WSU. Yes, I do plan to grow up eventually.

5. Along with my gig as a minister here in Wichita I worked second jobs, at various times, at Wal-Mart (10 pm to 7am, five days a week stocking grocery shelves), Spiegel call center (10 pm to 7 am five days a week)and as a records clerk for a cardiologist (twenty hours a week.) All these jobs were held in the last six years of full time ministry.

6. I was steeped in movie and comic book information from a young age. My dad collected old movies, mostly westerns, on 16mm film and we had movie nights at least once a month. Without the aid of Google I know not only the names of many western stars of the 30s, 40s and 50s I also know their horse’s names. I know the name of the Lone Ranger’s nephew (Dan Reid), his nephew’s horse (Victor), how the horse got its name (from a name-the-horse contest during WWII) and the name of the Lone Ranger’s grand nephew (Brit Reid who was also known as the Green Hornet.)
